SEO tips that you're in control of.

In this post, we are going to outline some useful tips that you don’t need to be a technical SEO expert to implement.

SEO can be a tricky and time-consuming asset for your website. It can also be, to a certain extent, uncertain business, especially when it comes to off-page SEO, where you are trying to get your website "back-linked" on other websites to improve your ranking. Take Wikipedia for example; almost anything you search these days will have Wikipedia listed at the top of the search results. That’s because a huge number of people use Wikipedia as a source of information and share these links. Getting your website shared in this way can take a long time. Luckily, on-page SEO is much easier to control, and anyone comfortable using a content management system can practice good SEO.

Website Content 

The algorithm Google uses to rank pages has continually evolved over the years. One (non-technical) aspect which Google has increasingly regarded as important in terms of rank is your website’s content, especially written content. 

It’s best to keep your content organised in a way that will maintain user engagement. One efficient way to organise your text content is to be specific; each piece of content (blog post, informational page, etc) should target a single keyword related to that page. For optimal results, that keyword should be placed in the title of the page, in the first paragraph, and the final paragraph. Your body content should also contain related keywords, as well as remaining focused, relevant, and above all providing value to your users. Depending on the content, try to keep your personal opinions out of any educational posts and keep strictly informative regarding the topic.

Length is another important factor, and a good general target is 1500 words per page. That quantity can be difficult to attain depending on the nature of the website. So, if you are writing short-form content (like we do) the quality of the content needs to authoritative and of direct value to the reader.

Visual Content

Visuals such as photographs and illustrations provide an incentive for your readers to stay on the page. Instead of having an overwhelming wall of text, you can use strategically placed photos to break up your text content, especially if it’s long-form. This isn’t a necessity, and visuals aren’t directly related to improving your SEO, but they can certainly help.

Behind the scenes, images play an important role in your on-page SEO. There is something called “alt-text” which is invisible to regular users but can be viewed by reader software and is in turn used to help blind users understand the content of your images. Our content management system provides you with the option to add a title and a description for each image you upload. It’s important to fill these fields in. We take this information and programmatically add it behind the scenes to show up for users who need this information. So, adding accurate descriptions with some keywords will help both search engines and users understand your content better, which will improve your rankings with Google.


Links that point to another page on your website (or “inter-linking”) play an important role in providing other relevant information that keeps your readers engaged and active on your website. 

Some ways we can provide this for you is by:

  • Adding a “related articles” widget for your blog which provides the user with relevant posts similar to the post they are viewing.

  • Adding categories and keyword widgets to your blog posts. A user can then follow one of these to a separate page which lists all the posts on your website based on the category or keyword clicked.

  • Creating a flow between pages to keep your user engaged.

You can interlink manually by adding links throughout your website which work to lead users through to other related pages. This is useful for blog posts to steer people toward additional relevant content, keeping them on your site. The main idea behind this is that the more time a user spends on your website, visiting different pages etc., the more your overall rankings will improve.


If you consistently provide good visual and written content that’s detailed, keeps your user engaged, reduces your bounce rate (keeps the user on your website) and is formatted to provide the greatest user experience, Google rankings will reward you for it.
